Based in Northamptonshire, an area of England long associated with boot and shoe production, Frank Thomas continues a tradition of craftsmanship and excellence dating back centuries. We are, however, a modern company whose exemplary design, quality of manufacture and speedy distribution has placed us at the pinnacle of the motorcycle clothing industry. With each product our aim is to combine excellent design with serious functionality.
Back in 1981, when founders Peter Laughton and David Wooding started the company, the market for motorcycle clothing was very different than today. A motorcyclist%u2019s uniform was plain black. Initially our range consisted of only three boots, all in black. However, this was soon to change when we developed the first ever racing boot in association with racing legends Roger Marshall and Ron Haslam. As the rest of the industry watched in disbelief, we sold boots as fast as we could produce them.
By 1983, with the huge success of our boots, we expanded into glove manufacturing. Again we led the way by creating our first ever waterproof motorcycle glove. We could scarcely keep up with demand!

1984 saw us add leathers to our ever popular range. These leathers were not only traditional, but also had elements of fashion (at the time!) styling such as the classic B-52 jacket. This helped create the %u2018whether you ride, whether you don%u2019t%u2019 appeal for our clothing.
In 1986, after intensive research, we introduced our first Aqua Waterproof range, again moving away from traditional black to more trend setting colour designs.
After development trials with Canadian road-racer Kate Coburn in 1987, we designed our first women%u2019s range of products. These products were specifically designed for women, in women%u2019s sizes. Now, with a complete range, we decided to create the Frank Thomas Department retail concept, something never before seen in the UK. This concept consisted of a slat-wall display system backed up with dealer training, sales advice and marketing support. The following year there were already 41 Departments.
By 1994 we were exporting to every European country and beyond including Canada, Australia and the US.
Following our huge success in the UK, by 1990 we were ready to develop outside of our home market. Export markets were established throughout Europe, with sales and distribution direct to retailers.
We continued to develop both at home and abroad when, in 1999, we joined forces with the fashionable motorcycle accessory brand Motrax to form the Frank Thomas Group.
Today, we at Frank Thomas, are proud to provide our fellow riders with high quality dependable riding kit at a sensible price. We look forward to welcoming you on our journey onwards.
